Coventry North Rotarians, together with the Rotary Club of Nagercoil and Rotary International, have provided a wonderful grant of £10,000 to set up a computer training facility, a stitching centre and to purchase a vehicle for SARC so that the younger children can be taken to school in safety.
Soon after the tsunami in December 2004, the ROtary Club of Coventry North, in England, stood outside the Coventry Football Club and collected £10,000 in a matter of hours from the generous supporters.
This money has now been matched with a grant from Rotary International and with the support of the local Rotarians in Nagercoil, the new facility has been built at SARC.
One of the first users of the computer centre was
Sumison, a 10-year old boy who has been since Selvi since the very begiining in APRIL 2005, soon after the tsunami. He lived with his grandmother in the refugee camp. His father abused him and mother does not care for him and he was completelyout of control. He is such a special kid, so bright, eager to learn, so loving and lively. He sent us the first email from the new computers:
“i am sumison i did not go to school because i did not bring uniform from home so i am with sister and miss. how are you? how are all at home? i got six rank in the fist midim exam next exam i will get fist rank. Your loving sumison”
